Fun outdoor activities to add to your bucket list!

A bucket list includes an array of activities that need to be experienced before leaving the Earth. Seeing, doing, and experiencing things that feel out of the ordinary and that stretch your imagination or comfort zone. Depending on how adventurous you are, you may need to start small and go from there.

Having experiences that don’t happen day-to-day makes life interesting and can spark a new passion or hobby. You don’t have to break the bank to have a fun new outdoor experience, but you do have to have an open mind and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone!

Some easy-to-do, close-to-home experiences


There is plenty that you can do close to home that won't cost you a fortune! Consider the following:

  • Visit a local water park and have fun on the slides!
  • Have a picnic in every park in your local area!
  • Join a walking group!
  • Go rollerblading or skatebaording!
  • Attend a music festival!
  • Stroll a farmers market and make a meal with your produce!
  • Attend a movie in the park event!
  • Play on the swings in your local park!

Taking a bit further afield!


Participating in activities near your home may feel mundane and underwhelming. Once you have seen and done the activities nearby, it’s time to set your sights on something more.

  • Visit a national park!
  • See a waterfall!
  • Climb a mountain!
  • Ride a horse!
  • Camp under the stars!
  • Pet a snake in a sanctuary!
What's on your bucket list?

Travel can make experiences even more special. Whether they require a road trip or flight, getting out of town for a fun activity is a great way to cross things off your bucket list.

If you have a mild personality, doing out-of-the box experiences may seem too risky or difficult. Start off by doing things that don’t take too much courage or effort.

Start getting a little more adventurous!

If you want to get a little more adventurous, there are plenty of activities you could try! Some may require some training and/or special equipment. If you need to build some endurance or attain a certain base skill, work your way into a new activity. Some activities require more physical ability and courage. Though not that hard, they can seem intimidating. It can be incredibly rewarding to knock some of these things off your list!

Not too scary

  • Zip lining 
  • Run 5 km
  • Sailing
  • Kayaking
  • Fishing
  • Stand up paddleboarding

More of a challenge!

  • White water rafting
  • Scuba diving
  • Parasailing
  • Bungee jumping
  • Hot air balloon ride
  • Participate in Tough Mudder or Spartan

When you're ready for a big challenge!


Once taking action and having unique experiences becomes more common, you can elevate your list to more extreme options. Even if you can’t or don’t want to participate in an event, you may enjoy spectating, which can be nearly as much fun!

Extreme experiences

  • Run with the bulls
  • Climb Mt. Everest
  • Walk the great wall of China
  • Race in the Baja 500
  • Participate in an Iron Man event
  • Attend the Tour de France

No matter what activity you choose, the key is to choose new and unique experiences that you know will make a lasting impact on you and make the effort worthwhile. Being able to end life with a sense of having seen and done some very special and unique things is gratifying.
